MY APPROACH
I find that the most important thing I can do is listen; to both you and your horse. Looking at all aspects of your horse's history and current life, management, environment and work I use my understanding of the natural behaviour of horses, their needs and the way that they learn to help to resolve any issue that s/he may be having. Using the LIMA (least invasive, minimally aversive) protocol I draw up a behaviour modification plan that works with the parameters that will work for you and your horse in the environment that s/he is currently living in to give you both the best chance of sustainable and effective results.
Whether consulting regarding behaviour or providing therapeutic bodywork treatments I consult with the whole horse in mind - my aim is for the horse to be contented and balanced in their life: healthy and happy in mind, body and spirit. When handling horses I communicate with them as much as possible with breathing, energy and mind-work, which they recognise and are comfortable with. I also enjoy having the opportunity to enhance the connection and understanding between horse and owner; the rewards that come from a harmonious relationship with your horse, with understanding and softness, cannot be overestimated.
I am always learning, both from every horse and owner that I meet and from keeping up with my CPD (Continuing Professional Development). Learning about as many different aspects of our horses' psychological, physical and spiritual health and wellbeing as I can is not only fascinating, but enables me to provide a continually developing, well-rounded service.
